Blue Demons Sweep Friday Doubleheader With Montana

Hocker pitches complete game shutout in DePaul's second win of the day
MISSOULA, Mont. — DePaul picked up its second win of the afternoon with a 4-0 shutout over Montana in game two of a doubleheader at the Grizzly Softball Field.
Senior pitcher Erin Hocker, a native of Great Falls, Mont., threw a complete game shutout. Hocker surrendered just five hits and improved to 2-4 on the season with a 2.80 ERA.
Maranda Gutierrez totaled two hits and two RBI while Zoie Rettig also posted a multi-hit outing. Rettig and Riley Pool drove in a run apiece.
DePaul (9-11) put two runs on the board in the second inning. Sullivan sent a leadoff single up to the middle and Anna Wohlers was hit by a pitch to take first and second. Grace Frazier advanced the runners on a sac bunt before Pool scored Sullivan on a sacrifice fly to right field. At the next at bat, Rettig drove Wohlers home with a single through the left side.
Both squads were scoreless for four innings before the Blue Demons added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Pool sent a two-out single up the middle to reach base before Rettig doubled down the left field line to put pinch runner Addison Talbot on third. At the turn of the lineup, Gutierrez doubled to right field to score Talbot and Rettig and put DePaul in front 4-0.
Hocker retired the final three batters to preserve the shutout and claim the victory.
DePaul will return to action on Saturday with a single game against Seattle slated for 12:30 p.m. CT. The Blue Demons will close out the trip on Sunday with their second matchup with the Redhawks set for 11 a.m.
