Connecticut’s Nine-Run Fifth Inning Too Much for DePaul

Blue Demons return home Friday to begin three game series with Villanova
STORRS, Conn. — DePaul could not withstand a nine-run fifth inning from Connecticut in Sunday's series finale as the Blue Demons fell 10-2 in five innings at Burrill Family Field.
The Blue Demons jumped out to an early advantage, leading 2-0 after two and half innings, on a Nicole Sullivan solo home run followed by a Brooke Johnson RBI single to score Maranda Gutierrez.
Sullivan's fourth home run of the season put DePaul on top 1-0 in the top of the second inning.
The top of the third saw Gutierrez hit by a pitch in the leadoff spot acne eventually scoring on a Johnson RBI-single up the right side. Polucha and Sullivan sent a pair of base hits to the right side to load the bases but were left stranded as DePaul led 2-0 after two and half innings.
The Huskies put a run on the board in the bottom of the third as a walked batter came around to score on an RBI single down the left field line.
The fifth inning saw UConn put up nine runs to capture the win. An-RBI single up the middle to plate a runner from third sparked the onslaught before two more scored on DePaul fielding error in right field. A pair of walks followed by a bases clearing double put the Huskies in front by five runs. Two singles followed by a pair of walks sent a trio of runs home to close out the game after five innings.
Erin Hocker went 4.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on six hits while striking out five batters.
The Blue Demons will return to action on Friday, April 1 to kick off a weekend series with reigning BIG EAST champions, Villanova. First pitch from Cacciatore Stadium is set for 2 p.m. CT
