Blue Demons head north on Sunday to take on Marquette in Milwaukee
CHICAGO – After a spring break interlude that led to a 10-day layoff, the DePaul women's tennis team is anxious to hit the courts.
Coach Marisa Arce and her players will encounter a BIG EAST weekend with a home match Saturday against Creighton at XS Tennis Village followed by a drive to Milwaukee on Sunday to take on rival Marquette.
The well-rested Blue Demons will be looking to regain their form after not playing since a 4-0 setback to No. 17 Loyola Marymount back on March 22 in Los Angeles. They did take advantage of the warm California weather to practice for several days after the match.
Saturday's matchup will be the second half of a DePaul-Creighton doubleheader as the Blue Demon men's team will confront the Bluejays at 1:15 p.m. at XS Tennis.
The women's team enters the weekend with a 5-5 dual-season record, winning four of its last six matches.
Leading the way is No. 1 singles standout Yuliya Kizelbasheva who is 5-2 in the dual season and 12-9 overall. Marija Jovicic is 5-4 in duals while impact freshman Eleanor Nobbs is 13-9 overall.
Kizelbasheva and Lenka Antonijevic form the top doubles team that has gone 13-7 overall. Hristina Djokic and Jovicic are 5-3 in the dual season while both Kizelbasheva and Antonijevic plus Nobbs and Valentina Martin are both 5-4.
Creighton has won five of its last six matches while going 9-4 in the dual season. Marquette has won four of its last five including wins over UIC, Illinois State and Georgetown. The Golden Eagles are a perfect 6-0 on their home court, Helfaer Tennis and Recreation Center.
