Women's Tennis Wins Opener of DePaul-Creighton Saturday Doubleheader

CHICAGO – One down, and one to go.
Women's tennis opened up a DePaul-Creighton doubleheader Saturday at XS Tennis Village with a 5-2 victory over the visiting Bluejays.
Now, it was up to the men's team to complete the South Side sweep.
Creighton (9-6) had won five of seven entering XS Tennis. DePaul (6-5) jumped out to a 1-0 lead as No. 3 doubles team Valentina Martin and Eleanor Nobbs took down Meredith Benson and Gabby O'Connor 6-2.
The No. 1 tandem of Lenka Antonijevic and Yuliya Kizelbasheva clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Sarah Wilcox and Kate Krueger.
Antonijevic won her second match of the day with a 7-5, 6-2 singles verdict over Wilcox in the No. 3 position for a 2-0 lead in the team score.
Creighton (9-5) got on the board winning at No. 1 singles but Nobbs, Martin and Hristina Djokic had an immediate response.
They closed it out with straight-set wins as Nobbs defeated Malvika Shukla 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 and Martin notched the clincher with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Benson. Djokic added an insurance point with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Wilcox.
The Blue Demons head to Milwaukee on Sunday for a BIG EAST match at Marquette.
