Total Team Effort in Blue Demons First Road Win of 2022

CHICAGO - DePaul men's soccer (2-0-1) earned their first road win of the 2022 season against Oakland (0-3-0) in the Thursday night matchup at Oakland Soccer Field in Rochester, Mich. The Blue Demons defense had a strong outing, but the game was decided in the second half when Sam Moore scored the only goal of the match.
"This was a great result for us," said head coach Mark Plotkin. "It was our first road test and Oakland asked some questions of us defensively. I thought we created some quality chances and I am glad Sam was able to put one away. Gandhi was big time in goal again, as was our back line. We'll enjoy this bus ride home and get ready for Notre Dame on Tuesday."
DePaul started their offensive attack early with five shots in the first half. Cade Hagan, Jack Richards and Marek Gonda all had a shot within the first 25 minutes of play, but none were able to connect with the net. Felipe Corral had a strong look into the bottom right of the goal but his attempt was ultimately blocked. Gandhi Cruz ended the first half with one save on seven shots, three being on goal.
The Blue Demons and Golden Grizzlies were tied nil-nil at halftime.
Oakland picked up their offense and powered off a shot in the 46th minute. Cruz made the save and set the tone for the Blue Demons in the second half. DePaul took seven shots in the last 45 minutes, and finally connected with the back of the net in the 76th minute. Sam Moore netted his first career goal on an assist from Felipe Corral. Moore's goal served as the difference of the match, giving the Blue Demons the win.
Oakland attempted a last minute offensive attempt, but Grant Herbek was in position to clear the ball and help secure the DePaul victory. Cruz made two saves in the second half, totaling three in the match. He has yet to allow a goal this season.

DePaul is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at Alumni Stadium in South Bend, Ind. as the Blue Demons take on Notre Dame. First touch is set for 6:00 p.m. CT.
