Anaya Peoples Selected Preseason All-BIG EAST

Blue Demons picked seventh in coaches' preseason poll
NEW YORK – DePaul women's basketball guard Anaya Peoples was named a Preseason All-BIG EAST selection as announced Tuesday morning prior to the conference's annual basketball media day.
Peoples, a graduate student out of Danville, Ill., is expected to take on a larger role for the Blue Demons in her final season of eligibility in 2023-24. A season ago, Peoples ranked third on the team in scoring at 9.5 points per game while finishing second in assists and steals at 2.9 apg and 2.1 spg, respectively.
In 2022-23, Peoples reached double figures on 19 occasions including in eight of DePaul's final nine games of the season highlighted by a season-high 17 points against Villanova in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals.
Peoples grabbed 167 rebounds last season (5.4 per game), the most of any campaign in her career, while eclipsing the 500-career rebound mark against Georgetown on Jan. 18. She ranked fourth in the BIG EAST with 2.1 steals per game and grabbed four or more steals seven times.
The Blue Demons were picked to finish seventh in the league by a vote of the 11 head coaches. Connecticut was the unanimous preseason favorite while Creighton, Marquette, Villanova and Seton Hall round out the top five. St. John's was selected sixth just three points ahead of DePaul.
Hall of Fame head coach Doug Bruno, entering his 38th season at DePaul, returns five letterwinners from a season ago led by Peoples and graduate student Jorie Allen. Bruno and his staff welcomed eight newcomers to Chicago in the offseason including veteran transfers Katlyn Gilbert (Missouri), Brynn Masikewich (UCLA) and Michelle Sidor (Michigan) alongside five underclassmen.
DePaul is preparing to face a rugged schedule once again with at least 12 matchups against teams that finished top-100 in the 2022-23 season end's NET rankings including Elite Eight participants Miami and Louisville after already facing national runner-up Iowa in a charity exhibition on Oct. 15 in front of 55,656 fans in attendance.
The Blue Demons wrap up preseason competition on Sunday, Oct. 29 with an exhibition against Lewis University. The 2023-24 season officially begins on Monday, Nov. 6 when Western Michigan visits Wintrust Arena.
