DePaul Hosts North Park for Exhibition

Blue Demons set for final tune-up before 2023-24 season kicks off
CHICAGO – The DePaul men's basketball team is set for its final preparations ahead of the 2023-24 season as they play host to North Park, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. for an exhibition contest. PRESEASON PROSPECTUS
The Blue Demons roster features four returners from last seasons squad, in addition to a total of eight newcomers. Among the eight newcomers includes five Division 1 transfers and two true freshmen. Chico Carter Jr. and Jeremiah Oden bring a wealth experience to the Blue Demons roster. Carter Jr., who started his career at Murray State, played his last two seasons with South Carolina where he shot 46.7 percent from three-point range. Oden averaged 9.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per game last season at Wyoming where he also helped the Cowboys to a 2022 NCAA Tournament berth.
DePaul's returners are highlighted by Da'Sean Nelson who averaged 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in BIG EAST play throughout 2022-23. Additionally, DePaul returns point guards Jalen Terry and Caleb Murphy. Terry, despite struggling with injuries throughout the season, shot 36.5 percent from three-point range last season. He made a late run in the BIG EAST tournament going 4-for-4 from deep against Seton Hall.
DePaul head coach, Tony Stubblefield, enters his third season at the helm of the Blue Demons program. During the offseason, Stubblefield made coaching staff additions in a pair of former head coaches with Tony Harvey and Matt Brady.
The Blue Demons non-conference schedule includes four teams who made the 2023 NCAA Tournament and a total of three teams picked in the top-five in their respective league.
SCOUTING NORTH PARK
North Park is coached by Sean Smith who enters his second season as the program's head coach. Smith was named D3Hoops.com National Coach of the Year in 2022-23, following a season where he lead the Vikings to a Division III Sweet Sixteen finish for the first time in school history since 1987. The team finished with 24 wins, the most since 1986-87, and won 13 conference games. The Vikings return 12 players from their tournament squad last season.
Former DePaul letterwinner, Edwind McGhee, makes his return to DePaul as the Vikings Associate Head Coach. McGhee played at DePaul from 2010-2014 where he was a four-time BIG EAST All-Academic honoree. He also previously served as a graduate assistant on the men's basketball staff. McGhee joined North Park ahead of the 2021-22 season, following a stint as the head coach at Lincoln College.

DePaul kicks off its 2023-24 season officially on Nov. 7 with a home matchup against Purdue Fort Wayne. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. with coverage on FS2 and 670 The Score.
