CHICAGO – Chico Carter Jr. Impressed in his DePaul debut Tuesday night, despite the men's basketball team falling, 82-74, to Purdue Fort Wayne. Carter Jr. totaled 18 points with a career-high eight rebounds.
DePaul had a total of four players in double-figures with Jeremiah Oden, Jaden Henley and K.T. Raimey also adding 10+ points apiece. Raimey also had a personal-best night with 11 points and three three-pointers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jaden Henley opened the game strong with four-points for an early DePaul lead. In what became a game of runs, the Mastodons went up 11-4. DePaul kept inching closer before recording their own run with seven-straight points that cut PFW's lead to six. Raimey sank a three in the last minute of the half as DePaul entered half down, 41-33.
DePaul came out of halftime with the necessary adjustments to go on a 9-3 run and close the game to a single-possession, 44-42. Purdue Fort Wayne inched their lead back up to nine before Elijah Fisher and Carter Jr. delivered three-point plays, 51-48. Oden finally tied the game for DePaul on an offensive putback before Henley took the lead, 55-53 following a fast-break layup.
The two teams then began a back-and-forth battle, trading points, before DePaul took their largest lead of the game, 68-62, on another three by Carter Jr. and jumper from Da'Sean Nelson. With under four minutes to go, DePaul couldn't halt Purdue Fort Wayne as the Mastodons outscored DePaul over the final minutes of the period.
