Strong second-half shooting not enough for DePaul
COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS – Chico Carter Jr. scored a game-high 21 points for DePaul men's basketball Wednesday evening in a road loss, 89-64, against #21/19 Texas A&M. Carter Jr. shot 7-of-9, including four three-pointers while also dishing out four assists.
As a team, DePaul shot a season-high 56.1 percent from the floor, including a 13-of-21 (.619) performance in the second half.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DePaul could not find a way to slow the Texas A&M offense in the first half as the Aggies went on an early 10-0 run for a 13-point, 18-5, lead. DePaul made its next three field goal attempts, but Texas A&M held onto its double-digit lead. The Aggies ended the first half shooting 64.9 percent from the floor for the lead.
The Blue Demons came out strong in the second half, putting up back-to-back baskets before holding A&M to a stretch of 1-of-7 from the field. During that period, DePaul went 5-of-6 on their own end. Four-straight trips down the floor with baskets were capped off by a three-pointer by Keyondre Young making the game, 79-59.
OF NOTE
- Carter Jr. had his second 20+ scoring performance of the season as it marked his 40th career double-digit game.
- Keyondre Young played a season-high 12 minutes and scored a season-best 10 points in his performance off the bench that included four rebounds.
- DePaul recorded 15 assists on 23 made field goals.
- Da'Sean Nelson grabbed a season-high six rebounds, for the team-best.
