CHICAGO – The DePaul men's basketball team picked up a 75-68 win Saturday afternoon against a former conference-foe in Louisville, at Wintrust Arena. The Blue Demons were led by a balanced scoring attack that included a game-high 22 points by Jeremiah Oden.
Oden shot 8-of-10 from the floor, including making all three of his three-point attempts. He also added six boards and a block. Oden was joined by three more double-digit scorers in Chico Carter Jr. (14), Da'Sean Nelson (10) and Jaden Henley (10). Carter Jr. also dished out eight assists, two off his personal best.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DePaul jumped out to an early, 7-2, lead thanks to seven unanswered points, including five from Oden. After back-and-forth action, the Cardinals converted a three-point play to take their frist lead, 16-15, since the beginning of the half. Keyondre Young put DePaul right back in the lead on an inbounds play, before a second-chance layup from Oden put DePaul ahead for good. The Blue Demons ended the first half on an 18-2 run over the final six minutes for a 38-22 halftime lead.
Henley opened the second half with a three-pointer that extended DePaul's lead to its largest at 19. The Cardinals went on a 10-0 run, cutting the lead to six, but DePaul wouldn't allow them to get any closer. Jalen Terry knocked in back-to-back baskets, including one off a steal that kept the Blue Demons lead in the double-digits, 60-47. DePaul remained in control of the game before Nelson delivered the final punch with a layup as the game ticked under two minutes.
