Meyer, Smith Earn Season’s First BIG EAST Weekly Honors

Blue Demons selected for weekly honors after 4-0 start to the season
NEW YORK – After leading DePaul to a 4-0 opening weekend seniors Tori Meyer and Brenna Smith were recognized by the BIG EAST Conference on Monday afternoon. Meyer was named Player of the Week for the first time in her career while Smith earned mention on the Weekly Honor Roll after making her DePaul debut.
At the dish, Meyer led the Blue Demons in RBI (5) and hits (6) on the weekend with a .462 (6-for-13) batting average. Meyer lifted the Blue Demons to a 2-1 win over Bowling Green with an inside the park home run, before sending a two-RBI base hit to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim an 8-7 victory over Saint Louis a game later. Meyer added four runs, a stolen base and 10 putouts in center field.
Brenna Smith tossed 9.2 innings and went 1-0 while also recording a save. In 9.2 innings of work, Smith owned a 0.00 ERA, while allowing just one run and three hits in a pair of appearances. On the weekend, the Purdue transfer held opponents to a .125 batting average. Against Bowling Green, the senior provided the relief in the sixth and trimmed down five-consecutive batters to preserve the slim margin and lift DePaul to the win. Smith threw all eight innings against Evansville, with the Aces scattering just three hits and scoring an unearned run in the Blue Demons victory.
DePaul returns to action on Friday when the Blue Demons open action at the Littlewood Classic against Weber State and Grand Canyon in Phoenix, Ariz.
