Women’s tennis wins first BIG EAST matchup
DEERFIELD, Ill. – The DePaul women's tennis team defeated the Butler Bulldogs 7-0 on Sunday evening. The victory serves as the Blue Demons first conference win of the 2023 season and second win of the weekend.Â
Greta Carbone and Maddie Yergler took down Butler's Balthaor and Schildcrout, 6-4, to get the first doubles victory of the evening. Lenka Antonijevic and Eleanor Nobbs completed the comeback on the No. 1 doubles court to get an early 1-0 advantage. Antonijevic and Nobbs were down 4-5, but were able to rally and grab the point with a final score of 7-5.
Greta Carbone and Valentina Martin were able to grab the first singles wins for DePaul. Carbone finished first on the No. 6 courts, defeating Emma Beavin 6-2, 6-1 to earn her second singles win of the season. Martin secured her third win during singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Butler's Katie Beavin.Â
Yuliya Kizelbasheva earned the decisive fourth point when she defeated Natalie Boesing in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. Hannah Smith followed behind Kizellbasheva and tallied her second singles win of the season after coming back to defeat Chase Metcalf 6-4, 7-5 in straight sets.
Lenka Antonijevic won her first set on a tie breaker, 7-5. In her second set, Antonijevic was able to get the 6-4 win to complete the sweep over the Bulldogs.Â
UP NEXT:Â The Blue Demons will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 21 as they take on the Iowa Hawkeyes. The match will be held at XS Tennis Village with first serve scheduled for 12 p.m.
