Women’s tennis holds two home matches
CHICAGO - The No. 67 DePaul women's tennis looks to extend their five-match win streak in a series of home matches this weekend. The squad will host the Drake Bulldogs on Friday afternoon and finish the weekend when conference rival Marquette comes to town on Saturday.Â
The Blue Demons were included in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) team rankings for the first time since 2016, checking in at No. 67.
The Bulldogs come to Chicago with a 5-3 overall record after winning their last matchup against Creighton, 4-3. Drake has also notched wins over Marquette, South Dakota and St. Thomas. The Friday afternoon matchup is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the Blue Demons will host conference rival Marquette. The Golden Eagles currently sit at 2-8 after winning their last two matches against UIC and Milwaukee. They have yet to participate in a BIG EAST matchup. The Saturday matinee match will begin at 1:30 p.m.
Saturday's matchup will also serve as the inaugural Natalie Matko Jackson Memorial Match. Natalie Matko Jackson was a four-year member of the DePaul women's tennis team. Jackson graduated in 2004, alongside her twin sister Stephanie. Matko Jackson finished her career as a member of the 80 singles' win club, an achievement reached by only 15 women in program history.Â
Matko Jackson lost her battle with breast cancer on Oct. 20, 2022 after a 10-year fight. DePaul women's tennis is raising funds through a pop-up gear shop for the BC Cancer Foundation, where Natalie received world class care while fighting her battle.Â
The Blue Demons will have a short break before returning to action on Sunday, March 19 when they take on the Georgetown Hoyas. First serve is set for 10 a.m. CT from Washington, D.C.Â
