Women’s Tennis Defeats Drake to Win Sixth Straight

DePaul earned a 5-2 win in a Friday matinee
CHICAGO – No. 67 DePaul women's tennis team won their sixth straight match on Friday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over the Drake Bulldogs (5-4). This is the first time the Blue Demons have won six straight since the 2016 dual season.
DePaul (7-5) won the doubles point, earning the early advantage before beginning singles play. Yuliya Kizelbasheva and Lenka Antonijevic teamed up on the No. 1 court and defeated Haagensen and Stepan to earn the first doubles win of the afternoon. Maddie Yergler and Valentina Martin secured the point when they defeated Klavinska and Lee, 6-4.
In singles play, the No. 2 court finished first when Hannah Smith earned a win over Drake's Haagensen 6-3, 6-3. Lenka Antonijevic was the third point for the Blue Demons as she defeated Stepan on the No. 3 court. Antonijevic completed her win in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Maddie Yergler clinched the winning point on a straight set victory over Drake's Lee. Valentina Martin completed the match with a win in a third set tiebreaker.
UP NEXT: The DePaul women's tennis team hosts Marquette on Saturday, March 4 at 1:30 p.m. The match will be held at XS Tennis Village and will serve as the inaugural Natalie Matko Jackson Memorial Match.
