No. 67 Blue Demons Sweep Marquette, Win Seventh Straight

DePaul earns 7-0 victory
CHICAGO – The No. 67 DePaul women's tennis team won their seventh-straight match on Saturday when they swept Marquette, 7-0, at the Natalie Matko Jackson Memorial Match at XS Tennis Village. This is the first seven-match win streak for the Blue Demons since the 2016 dual season.
The Blue Demons won the doubles point behind strong wins on the No. 1 and 2 courts. Lenka Antonijevic and Yuliya Kizelbasheva won 6-1 on No. 1 court while Greta Carbone and Hannah Smith earned a shutout win, 6-0, on the No. 2 court.Â
DePaul's strong showing continued into singles play. Hannah Smith secured the second point of the match with a straight set, 6-2, 6-3, victory over Marquette's Bou on the No. 2 singles court. Valentina Martin followed up with the third point when she defeated Badawi, 6-3, 6-1.
Maddie Yergler clinched the winning point for the Blue Demons in her second straight set. Yergler earned a 6-3, 6-4 win on the No. 6 court.Â
The final two singles matches went into third set tiebreakers. Lenka Antonijevic went down in the second set to Marquette's Desmarais and ended up earning a 10-8 victory in the third set to get the Blue Demons their sixth point of the afternoon. Greta Carbone also went to a third set tiebreaker and was victorious, 10-8, to complete the sweep.
UP NEXT: DePaul will take a break from play before returning to action on Sunday, March 19. The Blue Demons will take on the Georgetown Hoyas in Washington, D.C. with first serve coming at 10:00 a.m. CT.Â
