DePaul falls to 9-8 in dual play
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The DePaul women's tennis team fell to the Cincinnati Bearcats, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon.Â
DePaul (9-8) got out to an early lead after winning the doubles point. Yuliya Kizelbasheva and Maddie Yergler teamed up on the No. 2 court and defeated Cincinnati's Ferguson and Niehaus, 6-3. Valentina Martin and Hannah Smith won the point when they took down Bruno and Pendergast, 6-4, to give the duo their first win as a doubles team.
Yuliya Kizelbasheva earned the second point of the afternoon for the Blue Demons when she defeated Cincinnati's Pendergast in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. Kizelbasheva has won seven matches throughout the 2023 dual season, all on the No. 1 court.
Hannah Smith went to three sets on the No. 2 courts, but Cincinnati's Cassie McLay was able to come away with the win.Â
Valentina Martin was able to battle back after dropping the first set 1-6. Martin won the second set 7-6 (7-3) to force a third set tiebreaker, but fell in the final set.
UP NEXT: DePaul will be back at home for a BIG EAST weekend, taking on Seton Hall on Friday, April 7 at 1:30 p.m. The Blue Demons will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, April 8 as they take on St. John's at 1:30 p.m.
