Women’s tennis prepares for crosstown matchup
CHICAGO - The DePaul women's tennis wraps up the regular season on Friday as they travel across town to take on the UIC Flames. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m. from the Flames Outdoor Courts. This is the first match between the two Chicago schools since Feb. 4, 2012 when DePaul defeated the Flames 7-0.Â
UIC enters the match with a record of 10-9 throughout dual play. The Flames have wins over Butler, Oakland and Bowling Green. The Flames went 1-1 last weekend, falling to Illinois State 3-4 on Friday but defeating Bradley 7-0 on Saturday.
The Blue Demons earned two wins in their final weekend of home matches, defeating conference foes Seton Hall and St. John's. Senior Yuliya Kizelbasheva was named the BIG EAST Women's Singles Player of the Week after notching two wins over her opponents on the No. 1 court. Kizelbasheva sits at 9-10 overall in the dual season and 5-2 against conference opponents.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, DePaul will begin postseason play when the BIG EAST Championships kick off on April 20 in Cayce, S.C.
