
Track and Field Set for BIG EAST Outdoor Championships

DePaul heads out to Philadelphia, PA.
CHICAGO - DePaul Track and Field gears up for a competition filled weekend in Philadelphia, PA at the 2023 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. Events begin on Thursday at 2 p.m. CT at Villanova University's Jumbo Elliot Track.
The Blue Demons are on the hunt for outdoor titles after their women's indoor team placed second at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships in February. The men's team brought home third overall after earning 95 points in the meet.
Noelle Malkamaki and Billie Martin will be kicking off Championships on Thursday with the women's hammer throw. The men's hammer throw will follow, highlighted by Alex Bernstein who has earned a first place finish in each of the outdoor meets this season. The day will conclude with Tommy Elwood and Gavin Glaza in the 10,000m.
On Friday, events begin with the women's long jump featuring performances by Esther Aldana, Tori Carroll, Jordyn Showers and Alicia Jones. Charlotte Anderson will follow with the women's javelin. Trial running events make up most of the remainder of the day.
The only running events that will be finals will be the 3,000m steeplechase and the 5,000m. Will Previdi will be the only Blue Demon, male or female, in the steeplechase event. Olivia Borowiak will highlight the women's 5,000m while Dominic Bruce, Jacob Holmes and Griffin Lehnhardt will participate on the men's side.
Saturday's slate will begin with field events, as women's discus, men's shot put and women's triple jump will all take place. As for events on the oval, many will be the finals for each respective race. Participants will be decided based on results from Friday's trials. Relays will also take place on Saturday and DePaul will compete in the men's and women's 4x100m, 4x400m and 4x800m.
