The Blue Demons face off against the Crimson Tide
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer pays a visit to No. 7 Alabama for their season opener on Thursday, Aug. 17. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and fans can tune into the match on SEC Network + here.Â
ÂThe Crimson Tide hosts the Blue Demons for its season opener after compiling a 23-3-1 record overall in 2022. DePaul makes the trek down to Tuscaloosa after finishing up its two preseason exhibition matches against Wisconsin and Milwaukee, respectively.
ÂThe Blue Demons bring back 16 letterwinners from the 2022 season, in addition to 14 newcomers. Last season's key returners include forwards Susie Soderstrom and Freya Jupp ready to lead the attack, while Ellie Mink, Ebba Costow, and Beth Smyth aid in the production at midfield. Elena Milam is expected to play a crucial role as starting goalkeeper.
ÂOut of the 14 newcomers, three are international talents from Germany, Spain and Switzerland, bringing the highest level of European soccer experience to Lincoln Park including a World Cup win. Other members of the new squad include two transfers from Iowa State and Chicago State ready to make a name for themselves in the scarlet and royal blue. A multitude of freshmen join the Blue Demons from the surrounding Illinois suburbs in addition to two out-of-state players from Nebraska and New York.Â
ÂThis season will be head coach Michele O'Brien's third season at the helm of DePaul women's soccer. She is accompanied by newly promoted Rachel Pitman as associate head coach and recently hired Peter McKeown as assistant coach.Â
ÂAlabama leads the all-time series between the two programs 1-0 after defeating DePaul at Wish Field in 2018.Â
