Blue Demons welcome Lions to Wish Field for 10 a.m. kick off
CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer opens its 2023 campaign on Thursday morning when Lindenwood visits Wish Field.
Kick off between the unfamiliar opponents is slated for 10 a.m. CT. Fans can stream the match live on FloFC and follow live stats on StatBroadcast.

Setting the Scene
- The Blue Demons return 20 letterwinners from a 4-6-7 team a season ago including veteran forward Marek Gonda, All-BIG EAST goalkeeper Gandhi Cruz, fifth-year midfielder Michael Anderson, along with back line mainstays Grant Herbek and Kristian Malinich.
- 11 newcomers landed in Lincoln Park in 2023 including early enrollees Alex Peters and Drew Clark, in addition to transfers Callum Watts (Charlotte) and Christian Baumgartner (Kentucky).
- Seven true freshmen joined the fold in August with forwards Noeh Hernandez and Liam Mullins looking to make an immediate impact after Hernandez spent time with Chicago Fire II of the MLS Next Pro league and Mullins competed in the USL with Phoenix Rising FC.
- New in 2023, the BIG EAST Conference expanded to 12 teams in men's soccer after adding Akron as an affiliate member. The league has since split into two divisions with DePaul competing in the Midwest alongside Akron, Butler, Creighton, Marquette and Xavier. The conference tournament field has expanded to eight teams for the first time since realignment.
- Head coach Mark Plotkin (DePaul '10) is heading into his sixth season leading his alma mater.
About the Lions
- Lindenwood enters its second Division I season in 2023, playing in the Ohio Valley's inaugural season after competing in the Summit League in 2022.
- The Lions are coming off a 3-11-1 season where five matches were decided by one goal.
- Sophomore forward Anis Smalljovic returns as the top point earner with 11 in his freshman campaign.
- First-year head coach Kris Bertsch welcomed 21 newcomers to St. Charles in the offseason.
Series History
- Thursday marks the first meeting between the two programs.
- The Blue Demons will take the weekend to prepare for a visit to No. 2 Indiana on Tuesday, Aug. 28.
- Kick off from Bill Armstrong Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT with streaming on B1G+.
