Pressly and Klemp combine for 26 kills
BUFFALO, N.Y. - DePaul volleyball fell, Thursday night, in their first match of the WNY Invite to Buffalo, 0-3 (12-25, 26-28, 24-26).Â
DePaul (0-3) was led by Jill Pressly who amassed a season-high 18 kills. Ashley Cudiamat and Maggie Jones each tallied 12 assists while Jones added five kills as well. Rachel Krasowski totaled 13 digs in the first match of the weekend.
"In the last five sets we have played, we played four sets into the red zone with opportunities to convert a win," said head coach Marie Zidek. "I think that's important to keep in sharp focus as one looks at our team and another loss. We took steps forward today in many ways. That said, the clock ticks on the season, and we have to stay motivated to put together a stable and complimentary offense that can capitalize on all of the good this team is already doing in every other phase of the game. Tomorrow is another chance. We are thankful we don't have to wait a week of practice for another opportunity as the pain of losing would linger too much. The sun will rise, we will lace 'em up, and we will get right back on the horse."
Buffalo (4-0) was led by Manoela Forlin with 11 kills and 10 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE: The Bulls got out to an early 11-4 behind kills from three separate players. Buffalo's lead continued to grow and the Blue Demons were unable to catch up.
SET TWO: Jill Pressly tallied three quick kills to get the Blue Demons out to an early 3-1 lead. The two sides dueled closely each point, keeping the score close throughout the entirety of the set. DePaul was able to tie the set at 24 apiece behind a Buffalo attack error and earn the 26-25 lead off of an Audrey Klemp ace. A Buffalo timeout turned into a kill and two Blue Demon attack errors and the Bulls took the set.
SET THREE: The two teams kept the action close, as neither led by more than two points throughout the whole third set. The Blue Demons got out to a 12-10 lead due to a Buffalo service error and a Pressly kill. Each side battled it out and kept each score close, and a 3-1 run for DePaul tied up the set at 19. After a couple kills from Pressly and a Buffalo error, the match was tied 24-24. Buffalo was able to grab the final two points out of a timeout and take the match.
