Jill Pressly tallied her 1,000th career kill
BUFFALO, N.Y. - DePaul volleyball earned their first win of the season, Friday afternoon, taking down Binghamton, 3-1 (25-12, 29-25, 25-16, 25-20).Â
The Blue Demons (1-3) were led by Jill Pressly who totaled a season-high 21 kills, surpassing 1,000 in her career. She also added 13 digs, her first double-double of the season and 33rd of her career. Audrey Klemp had 17 kills and owned a blistering .500 hitting percentage, while Katelynn Oxley made her first start of the season with seven blocks.Â
"Great win for the team," said head coach Marie Zidek. "Finally breaking through and a rewarding moment for the hard work. Congrats to Jill for her 1,000th kill and monster day from Audrey hitting .500 from the left. We had contributions from key role players as well who continue to give our offense opportunities to get their arms on the ball. Excited to keep the momentum on our side and looking forward to our final test versus Montana."Â
Binghamton was led by Tsvetelina Ilieva with 17 kills and 16 digs.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE: A 6-0 run behind Binghamton errors and kills from Kindelberger and Pressly got the Blue Demons out to a 8-3 lead. DePaul pushed out further to a 23-10 lead, behind 13 combined kills from Pressly and Klemp and five blocks from the front line. The Blue Demons held a hitting percentage of .265 throughout the first set of play.Â
SET TWO: The Blue Demons tied up the second set at 4-4, behind Binghamton attack errors and a service ace from Ashley Cudiamat. A 5-1 Bearcats run put the Blue Demons behind, but DePaul made up ground behind Pressly's seventh kill of the afternoon. Additional Binghamton errors cut DePaul's deficit to only four. Down 22-13, the Blue Demons tried to come back from behind on kills from Pressly and Oxley, but Binghamton ultimately took the set to tie the match.Â
SET THREE: A 3-0 run put DePaul up, 12-8. The Blue Demons continued to pressure the Bearcats, behind Pressly's attack. Kills from Maggie Jones and Pressly, as well as blocks from Pressly and Oxley secured the third set win for DePaul.
SET FOUR: Klemp's 13th kill of the afternoon tied the set up, 4-4. Early back-and-forth kept the set close until the Blue Demons pulled away with a run to go up 10-7.
