Huck Earns All-Invite Team Honors in Blue Demons Opening Weekend

KALAMAZOO, MICH. – After a stellar performance in Kalamazoo, Leon Huck was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Vredevelt Invitational.
This past weekend, Huck earned two singles victories along with one of the team's two doubles wins. Additionally, Huck and Laurentiu Mandocescu led the way for DePaul, combining for five of the Blue Demons nine singles.
On day one of the WMU Invite, each athlete competed in one doubles match and two singles matches. DePaul picked up its first win of the morning, thanks to Mandocescu and Elias Anwar. The duo took down Harry Fouzas and Onder Balci of Youngstown State, with a score of 6-1.
The Blue Demons racked up four singles wins against their Butler opponents, with Huck, Matteo Iaqunito, Mandocescu, and Sven Moser all securing victories. In singles against WMU, Huck was victorious yet again, defeating Jackson Boone, 6-2, 1-6, [10-4]. Sophomore Anwar was also triumphant in his WMU matchup, outscoring Alvin Altman in two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
To begin the second day of the tournament, Huck and Moser collected the Blue Demons second doubles victory, knocking off Butler's Nicolas Arts and Siddhartha Lama, 6-3.
Mandocescu seized two victories in singles on Saturday, claiming wins against Youngstown State's Nishant Dabas and WMU's Ferdinand Schlueter, 6-2, 6-2. Moser won in similar fashion, 6-1, 6-2, taking down Butler's Nicholas Balthazor to finish off the weekend in Western Michigan.
DePaul finished with a record of 11-17 at the Vredevelt Invitational, split between 2-7 in doubles and 9-10 in singles play.
The Blue Demons look to bounce back next week with the ITF Futures in Ithaca, N.Y. and ITA All-Americans in Tulsa, Okla. The ITF Futures is scheduled for Sept. 29 - Oct. 8, and the ITA All-Americans is set for Sept. 30 - Oct. 8.
