Doubles Duos Shine in Marathon Match

LINCOLN, NEB. – In a back-and-forth contest, DePaul narrowly missed squeezing out a victory, dropping a tight match against Harvard, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Dillon Tennis Center.

The duo of Greta Carbone and Hannah Smith continued to provide the Blue Demons with a spark on Saturday, claiming the doubles point in dramatic fashion, down a break before roaring back to clinch the doubles point at No. 1. Following Friday's victory, the pair edged Iveta Daujotaite/Angel You (HAV) 7-6 (7-4) to improve to an impressive 11-3 this season.

The tandem of graduate students Emily Casati and Yuliya Kizelbasheva made quick work of Maxi Duncan/Rachel Arbitman (HAV) 6-0 to put DePaul up early in doubles action. Casati and Kizelbasheva (8-4) give Coach Marisa Arce and the Blue Demons consistent play in the No. 2 doubles slot.

In singles action, sophomore Hannah Smith continued her stellar performance with straight set wins on court two. No. 3 junior Eleanor Nobbs followed suit, claiming victory 7-5, 6-3 over Sany Gawande (HAV).

On court five, Carbone could've been counted out after dropping the first set and trailing 3-0 in the second, but the senior won five-straight games and ultimately took the second set 7-5 to force a deciding third before eventually falling 6-1.
