Pressly propels offense with 26 kills
South Orange, N.J. – DePaul volleyball defeated Seton Hall 3-1 (25-20, 25-15, 18-25, 25-19) Sunday afternoon, earning their third consecutive conference match. The Blue Demons rise to 13-5 on the year, including 5-1 in BIG EAST play. Seton Hall falls to 7-10, with a 1-5 mark in conference matches.
Graduate student Jill Pressly exploded on offense for the Blue Demons, tallying 26 kills and 16 digs for her second consecutive double-double, and ninth of the year. Fellow graduate student Audrey Klemp poured in 14 kills on the day.
Sophomore Meghan Scholz and senior Aly Kindelberger both contributed seven kills, and Kindelberger also led the team with three blocks.
Defensively, the Blue Demons were paced by 24 digs from libero Rachel Krasowski. Freshman Abby Cahill added ten digs for her third career match in double-figures, alongside a career-high three service aces.
Setter Ashley Cudiamat notched 23 assists and 14 digs for her second double-double of the weekend, and freshman Amanda Saeger posted 25 assists and 14 digs of her own.
"Leaving a tough road swing with two wins only happens when a group of talented individuals is willing to work together and compete," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"Nothing is easy in the BIG EAST, no point, no set, no atmosphere, no match. This weekend was a full display of teams that absolutely want to beat one another. I'm proud of this team's efforts to lead together and work together. They want to be coached and pushed, and all of these things together is the only way we get two road wins. It was an incredible mental, emotional, and physical effort by this group, and there's more to do next week to keep building on this."
Seton Hall was led by sophomore Senna Roberts-Navarro, and graduate student Laila Wallace, who each recorded nine kills for the Pirates.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE: The set opened close, with neither side leading by more than two points until Seton Hall pulled ahead, 18-15. Kills from Klemp, Pressly, and Kindelberger knotted the set at 19, and two more Pressly kills along with two Cahill service aces earned DePaul the victory, 25-20.
SET TWO: DePaul jumped out to a quick start and led the whole way, including a 3-0 run with kills from Klemp, Pressly, and Yavuz. Six late errors from the Pirates led to a convincing set win, 25-15, in favor of the Blue Demons.
SET THREE: The teams swapped kills early, until two 3-0 scoring runs in the middle of the set amassed a six-point lead for Seton Hall. Pressly added two late kills but the Pirates took the set, 25-18.
SET FOUR: Two kills from Klemp marked a 4-0 scoring run and a five-point lead for DePaul at 11-6. The Pirates clawed within two, led by three kills from Navarro-Roberts, but could not overcome the deficit. Pressly tallied four kills in the final nine points for the Blue Demons, lifting DePaul to the 25-19 set win.
