As a group, the class has appeared in over 233 career matches and logged over 13,000 minutes on the pitch.
Demon Doings
DePaul looks to return to its winning ways after a 4-1 setback at St. John's on Saturday evening. The Blue Demons are 5-5-2 on the year and 1-2-1 in conference play.
Through 12 matches, DePaul boasts one of the highest scoring offenses in the league and the country, netting 2.00 goals per game which ranks second in the BIG EAST and No. 27 nationally.
DePaul has scored 24 goals which is the most since the 2016 squad recorded 28 in 21 matches. Additionally, DePaul's 24 assists on its 24 goals is top-30 in Division I and second in the league.
Over the course of the season, the Blue Demons have seen everyone get involved in the offense with 12 unique goal scorers in 2024, the most since the 2013 season (12).
Sophomore midfielder Noeh Hernandez has been pivotal in DePaul's scoring success, contributing to over half of the Blue Demon goals on the season with six of his own, three of which were game-winners, to go along with seven assists which both lead the team. Hernandez scored DePaul's lone goal in the loss to St. John's.
Hernandez's assist total is 11th in the country while his point total (19) is good for 23rd, trailing only Akron's Emil Jaaskelainen (34) among conference players.
On the front line, Logan Finnegan and Keagan Pace have notched four and three goals, respectively, while Pace also has five assists to his credit. The trio has each recorded double-digit shots on the season.
Goalkeeper Santiago Davila has started all 12 matches in net, making 49 saves on the season and owns a 1.75 goals against average.
The Blue Demons are 0-1 against ranked opponents this season, falling 3-2 to then-No 2 UConn on Sept. 20 at Wish Field.
With four regular season matches remaining, every contest is critical for postseason implications. DePaul currently sits tied for third in the Midwest Division with four points. For the second-straight season, eight teams earn bids to the conference tournament with the squad with the highest overall conference points securing the No. 1 seed, along with the team in the opposite division with the highest conference point total locking up the No. 2 seed. The remaining six seeds, regardless of division, will be determined by conference points.
Akron Notes
The nationally ranked Zips enter the weekend on a six-match winning streak with an overall record of 7-3-3 and an unbeaten 4-0 mark in BIG EAST action.
Akron is coming off of a 3-2 win over Villanova last week in which the Zips scored three first-half goals to stave off the upset-minded Wildcats.
Offensively, senior Emil Jaaskelainen leads the nation in goals with 14 while also recording six assists for a total of 34 points on the 2024 campaign. He is the reigning Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week. Classmate Dyson Clapier ranks second on the squad with four goals and 13 points.
Goalkeeper Mitch Budler has started and played in all 16 matches for the Zips, making 38 saves and owning a 1.23 goals against average.
Jared Embick is in his 15th season leading the Akron soccer program.
Series Stuff
Saturday will be just the second meeting between the two squads in Akron's second season in the BIG EAST. In 2023, the Zips outlasted the Blue Demons 3-0 at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Up Next: The Blue Demons host their final home contest of the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 23 when conference foe Marquette visits Wish Field. Kick off is set for 2 p.m. with live coverage on Marquee Sports Network.
