Klemp adds fourth consecutive match in double-figure kills
Omaha, Neb. – DePaul volleyball fell to No.6 Creighton 3-0 (18-25, 12-25, 13-25) Sunday afternoon, dropping to 13-7 overall and 5-3 in BIG EAST conference play.
Offensively, the Blue Demons were paced by graduate student Audrey Klemp, who tallied 11 kills for her fourth consecutive match in double-figures. Outside hitter Jill Pressly and middle blocker Aly Kindelberger each contributed six kills of their own.
Libero Rachel Krasowski guided the defense with ten digs. Setters Ashley Cudiamat and Amanda Saeger split match responsibilities, both registering 14 assists on the day.
"Creighton played well in every phase of the game," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"Their player development and execution over time is ahead of where we are, and we failed to bring the things we do well to this match. They hold our league to a high standard, but if you're a competitor, you go back to practice next week and work even harder. Creighton didn't get to where they are overnight, it happened with years of hard work led by players who care. We have a squad that cares too, and we will get back to practice to work on serving tougher and swinging harder with more range. Our level only goes up from here, and the players within our program know it's time to level up."
The Bluejays were led by ten kills from junior Ava Martin.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET ONE
Creighton opened on a 4-0 run, and never relinquished the lead. Three kills from Klemp kept the Blue Demons within striking distance, until another 4-0 run late in the set earned the Bluejays the 25-18 victory.
SET TWO
Set two was knotted at three early after kills from Klemp and Kindelberger. Creighton then exploded for a 9-0 run, propelled by four service aces from senior Norah Sis. Klemp earned two more kills but the Blue Demons could not overcome the deficit, as the Bluejays took the 25-12 set win.
SET THREE
The Bluejays jumped in front by five after three more service aces, but DePaul pulled within two after kills from Klemp, Kindelberger, and sophomore Yagmur Yavuz. Two blocks and another service ace contributed to a 6-0 Creighton run mid-set, and a Martin kill sealed the set for the Bluejays, 25-13.
