Cudiamat records ninth double-double of season
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball defeated the Providence Friars 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-17) Friday evening, earning their seventh straight-set win of 2024. The Blue Demons improve to 14-7 overall, and 6-3 in BIG EAST play.
Outside hitter Jill Pressly led the Blue Demon offense with 15 kills, while Audrey Klemp and Aly Kindelberger each contributed nine kills on the night. Middle blocker Meghan Scholz added six kills and three blocks.
Defensively, three Blue Demons tallied double-figure digs, including senior Ashley Cudiamatwho poured in 16 assists and 13 digs for her ninth double-double of the year. Libero Rachel Krasowski registered 15 digs, while sophomore Nora Mannion posted ten of her own.
"We played well when we needed to create space, but our ability to hold game and command was not with us tonight," said head coach Marie Zidek.
"When we passed and dug well enough we got our middles involved and that group is really starting to command the team. When you play a team that plays at different speeds and rhythms, it is up to you to hold and protect your own rhythm during the match. We did that at times tonight and at other times did not. However, to come out with a sweep speaks to this team's ability to figure it out, and it was an important response tonight. Every win brings us closer to qualifying for the postseason and being higher in the rankings. We have the win and we can look forward to tomorrow's practice to get us back on track before we play UConn on Sunday."
Providence was led by nine kills from middle blocker Lyric Berry.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE
Providence took the lead early, opening with a service ace and two quick kills from Berry. DePaul knotted the set at six and the sides traded points until three Pressly kills put the Blue Demons up by five. It was all DePaul the rest of the way, as Kindelberger closed the 25-18 set victory with a kill.
SET TWO
Four Friar errors along with two Klemp kills put DePaul in front early, 10-6. The Friars battled to tie it at ten, but Kindelberger exploded for four kills to give the Blue Demons an 18-11 lead. Providence came back within one late, aided by four Blue Demon attack errors, but a kill each from Kindelberger and Pressly earned DePaul the set win, 25-23.
SET THREE
The teams swapped kills early, but consecutive Klemp and Pressly kills forced Providence into a timeout. The Friars kept within three, but Brooker, Kindelberger, and Pressly tallied three straight kills to give the Blue Demons a six-point advantage. From there, DePaul never looked back, taking the set win, 25-17.
