
Sasha Stula Finishes Undefeated on Day Two

The sophomore collects two singles victories tallying perfect 3-0 weekend
CINCINNATI – Women's tennis was back in action for the final day of the Cincinnati Hidden Duals at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center on Saturday, Oct. 5
DePaul battled Cincinnati at 9:00 a.m. CT to start the only round of doubles play. For the second time in as many days, junior Hannah Smith and senior Eleanor Nobbs teamed up on court one. The tandem took home a commanding 6-2 victory over Erman/Gruszynska.
Singles competition began for the Blue Demons versus Miami (OH) at 10:00 a.m. CT. Smith competed in a back-and-forth affair against the Redhawks' best Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek in the No. 1 slot, but ultimately conceded her first match of the season, 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), (5-10). Prior to the loss Smith had won her first four matches to open the season. The English native is still undefeated in doubles to begin the young season. Sophomore Sasha Stula continued success from day one winning 6-2, 6-4 on court three.
The Blue Demons ended the final singles match of the hidden dual on a positive note against Marshall. The contest got underway at 1:00 p.m. CT with Smith tallying a 3-6, 6-4, (10-3) triumph over Emma Vanderheyden. Four other Blue Demons followed suit, collecting victories on courts 2-5. Nobbs won a tiebreaker 10-3 after splitting the first two 3-6, 6-4 on court two.
Once again, Stula earned the advantage over Aisling McGrane in slot three, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Stula finished the weekend with a perfect singles record, looking to continue a jump in her second year with the program. Senior Eva Goncharov won in straight sets on court four, 6-4, 7-5. In slot 5, sophomore Helin Alvarez won in dominant fashion over Katy Limanen 6-1, 6-0.
The scarlet and blue finished with five doubles victories over the course of two days, tying them with the Bearcats for second place. In singles action, DePaul totaled eight wins which resulted in a second place finish among the field.
