CHICAGO – As DePaul men's basketball's season opening homestand continues, the Blue Demons will welcome Mercer into Wintrust Arena on Monday. The game will tip off at 8 p.m. on FS2 with Jason Ross Jr. and Stephen Bardo on the call. Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will have the radio call on DePaulBlueDemons.com.
LAST TIME OUT
DePaul (2-0) had a resounding win Thursday evening in Wintrust with a 92-59 victory against Prairie View A&M, securing the teams first 30+ point victory since 2021. Isaiah Rivera led DePaul in scoring for the second-consecutive game with 17 points as a total of five Blue Demons reached double-digit figures. NJ Benson notched 15 points off the bench on 6-of-8 shooting with nine rebounds.
In the game, DePaul's point guard duo showed how dangerous they can be as Layden Blocker and Conor Enright both notched seven assists. They became the first DePaul duo to each record seven or more assists in the same game since 2012.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
Stellar shooting has already become the landmark of this DePaul team, as the Blue Demons have averaged over 12 three-pointers per game through the opening week of the season. Eight of the 10 DePaul players who saw action through the first two games have notched a three-pointer, including Rivera's BIG EAST-leading eight. The team has shot 35.7 percent from deep, all while holding their opponents to 26.7 percent.
DePaul has also seen significant production from its bench through the first two games, averaging 37.5 points. The bench points per game ranks among the nation's best early in the season and is highlighted by Jacob Meyer's 18.0 points per game average.
THE OPPONENT
Mercer (1-0) is also led by a new head coach this season, Ryan Ridder who owns a 192-120 career record through 11 seasons. Ridder led the Bears to a 123-54 season-opening victory against DIII Virginia-Lynchburg, setting the program's record for most points scored in a game. Angel Montas Jr. led the team with a career-high 18 points while Jah Quinones had 10 assists.
The Mercer roster features 11 newcomers, but are led by three experienced returners from the 2023-24 campaign. Monday's game marks Mercer's first contest against a BIG EAST opponent since 2019 against St. John's.
