DePaul hosts kick off to conference play
CHICAGO – In the first game of conference play, the DePaul men's basketball team will face off against Providence, Tuesday evening, inside Wintrust Arena. The first game of the 2024-25 BIG EAST slate is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip on FS1 with Connor Onion and Dickey Simpkins on the call. Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will have the radio broadcast available on both Sirius XM and 670 The Score.
LAST TIME OUT
DePaul (7-1) returns home following its first road trip of the season which ended in a loss to (RV) Texas Tech. DePaul notched its fifth-straight game with 10 or more made three-pointers, highlighted by Jacob Meyer's four on the night. The Blue Demons held Texas Tech to a season-low 76 points and five made three-pointers.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul's offense continues to be among the nation's best as the Blue Demons rank third nationally with 12.5 made three-pointers per game and sixth with 19.8 assists per game. On top of over 50 percent of the Blue Demons shot attempts coming from three, DePaul is shooting them at a 39.8 percent clip which ranks top-20 nationally. Seven different Blue Demons are shooting above 30 percent from deep, led by Meyer's 46.9 percent with 23 made three-pointers.
Conor Enright also continues to be among the nation's best playmakers, averaging 7.4 assists per game which ranks seventh nationally. Enright also has above a 2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio and has a 27.7 assist rate per EvanMiya, which ranks second in the BIG EAST.
THE SERIES
Providence leads the all-time series between the two programs, 40-13, including 10 of the last 11 meetings. DePaul is 8-16 against the Friars in Chicago, and will look for its first regular-season win against Providence since 2019.
SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence (6-4) split a pair of games last week as they saw the return of the teams leading scorer, Bryce Hopkins. The Friars took down BYU, 83-64, in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle before falling, 69-63, on the road to Rhode Island. As a team, Providence averages 70.6 points per game and has shot 34.2 percent from three-point range. The Friars top statistical category comes in their scoring defense, holding opponents to an average of 63.8 points per game.
Hopkins nabbed BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll accolades, following a 16-point performance against BYU in his season debut. Jayden Pierre is the team's next leading scorer, averaging 12.9 points in all 10 games started. Graduate transfer Wesley Cardet Jr. is familiar with Wintrust Arena, following an 18-point performance last season when DePaul defeated Chicago State.
