Blue Demons Blanked Against Queens

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The DePaul offense was quieted on Saturday, dropping a 3-0 decision to Queens on the second day of the UNCW Tournament.

DePaul (0-3) was held to just three hits, two of which came from freshman Brooke Cwick. Cwick went 2-for-3 on the afternoon, continuing her explosive start to her collegiate career.

Junior Katey Pierce earned her second start in the circle in as many days. Pierce went 4.2 innings, surrendering three runs on seven hits. Freshman Lydia Ettema came on in relief going 1.1 innings and only giving up one walk.

Fifth year first baseman Brooke Johnson tallied her third hit in as many games, marking the first hit of the game for the Blue Demons in the fourth inning. Senior Payton Viles made her season debut, pinch hitting in the sixth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Queens threatened first, having runners on second and third in the second inning, but a fly out kept the game scoreless. Cwick had a leadoff single in the fifth, but the Blue Demons were unable to get anything going. The Royals responded with a five-hit fifth inning, scoring the three decisive runs in the game.
