DePaul drops game on Saturday afternoon
ARLINGTON, TEXAS - DePaul softball fell to Boise State, 19-2 in five innings, on the second day of the Maverick Invitational on Saturday afternoon.Â
Seniors Brooke Johnson and Riley Pool recorded runs for DePaul (0-8) in their lone game of the day while freshman Morgan Rogers tallied her first career hit as a Blue Demon.
Katey Pierce (0-3) earned the start against Boise State (5-2), going 2.2 innings and giving up nine runs on nine hits. Freshman Lydia Ettema came in for relief, while Brenna Smith closed out the game pitching 2.0 innings and allowing only three hits.
The second scheduled game of the day, against Kansas City, was canceled due to inclement weather and wind chill and will not be made up.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
GAME 1 - Boise State 19, DePaul 2 (5 innings)
Two home runs from the Broncos put Boise State up early, 4-0. In the bottom of the second, Riley Pool hit a leadoff double and Gracie Jacobs followed with a double of her own. Pool advanced to third on Jacobs' hit and scored on a throwing error, cutting the lead, 4-1. An 11-run third inning put Boise State in control of the game. Johnson and Pool were walked to begin the fifth inning and an error allowed Johnson to cross home, giving DePaul their second run.
UP NEXT
DePaul concludes the Maverick Invitational with a matchup against UT-Arlington on Sunday, Feb. 18. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. CT with coverage on ESPN+.
