ARLINGTON, TEXAS - Despite tallying five hits Sunday afternoon, the DePaul softball team couldn't get a run across the board as UT Arlington defeated the Blue Demons, 1-0. DePaul (0-8) gave up its fewest runs of the season behind starting pitcher Bella Nigey.

Nigey (0-3) went 5.0 innings allowing two hits with one run scored, two strikeouts and no walks allowed. Brenna Smith entered in relief, going 1.0 inning and not allowing a base runner. Offensively, Riley Pool led DePaul going 2-of-3 on the day as she has a three-game hit streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After giving up a hit by pitch in the first inning, Nigey retired 10-straight to face the minimum number of batters through the first four innings. The Blue Demons notched a base runner in each frame, including Brooke Cwick and Brooke Johnson reaching scoring position.

DePaul threatened on the top of the fifth with a leadoff single by Karli Blount. Blount took advantage of the Mavericks defense not paying attention and quickly advanced to second. Bibianna Rodriguez followed with a bunt single, giving DePaul a pair of runners on the corners. The Blue Demons looked to be aggressive on the base paths following a pinch hit by Gracie Jacobs, but both Blount and Rodriguez were tagged out at home trying to score.

UTA notched its first hit of the game in the bottom of the fifth. The runner stole second before a two-out RBI single scored the lone run of the game.

UP NEXT
DePaul heads to Memphis, Tenn. for the Blues City Tournament on Feb. 23-25. The Blue Demons will face off against SIUE, Tennessee Tech and Memphis.
