DePaul adds pair of experienced transfers
CHICAGO – DePaul men's basketball head coach Chris Holtmann officially announced the addition of a pair of transfers, Conor Enright and JJ Traynor, Thursday morning.
Enright comes to DePaul following three years at Drake and has two remaining seasons of eligibility after redshirting his freshman season. While at Drake, Enright helped the Bulldogs to back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship titles, a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and a 55-15 record.
"Conor is a terrific addition to our DePaul program," said Holtmann. "He is tough, excellent defensively and a consummate point guard who can also play off the ball because of his shooting. He is from the Chicagoland area and he has won at a high level and understands what winning basketball looks like. Conor will immediately help us on the floor with his play and leadership these next two years."
Enright was a vital part of the Bulldogs tournament run in 2023-24 where he started all 33 games for Drake, averaging 6.9 points, 3.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 43.9 percent from three. The sophomore ranked second in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 2.44 assist-to-turnover ratio. He earned MVC All-Freshman honors in 2022-23 after playing in all 35 contests for Drake and averaging 4.1 points and 1.6 assists per game.
A Mundelein, Ill. native, Enright attended Mundelein High School where he was named to the Chicago Sun Times All-Area Team in 2020-21.
Traynor joins DePaul following four years at Louisville and comes to Chicago. Traynor appeared in eight games with three starts in 2023-24 prior to an injury that caused him to miss the rest of the season. In his eight games, Traynor averaged 10.1 points per game while shooting 51.6 percent from the floor.
"JJ is an excellent addition to our program," said Holtmann. "He is long and versatile both offensively and defensively and I really believe his best basketball is ahead of him. We have had success with versatility forwards and I believe JJ fits perfectly into how we want to play. He has the ability to switch defensively, impact the game with his length, ability to shoot and growing offensive game. We are really excited about JJ."
In his junior season at Louisville, Traynor appeared in all 32 games with 16 starts, including the final 12 of the season. He averaged 6.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per game and received a vote for ACC Most Improved Player of the Year. Over his last seven games of the season he averaged 11.4 points and 6.0 rebounds including a season-high 16 points against Duke.
A Kentucky native, Traynor averaged 20.2 points, 11.2 rebounds and 3.6 blocks as a senior in 2019-20 at Bardstown High School. He completed an outstanding high school career with 1,159 points and a school-record 806 rebounds.
