Softball Drops Friday Matchup to Villanova

CHICAGO, Ill. - DePaul softball dropped the series opener against Villanova, 7-0, Friday afternoon.

Katey Pierce got the start for the Blue Demons in the circle, surrendering seven runs on seven hits while tallying three strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work. Brenna Smith appeared in relief, throwing 3.1 innings and giving up two hits and zero runs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Villanova (23-18, 14-2 BIG EAST) took a 2-0 lead in the third inning and never looked back.

DePaul (8-30, 3-13 BIG EAST) got a baserunner aboard as Ava Paganis hit a single to right field and moved to third on a Villanova error. Morgan Rogers and Lydia Ettema both drew walks, but the Blue Demons were unable to bring any runs home.

DePaul looks to bounce back against the Wildcats in the second game of the series on Saturday, April 20. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. with coverage on FloSoftball.
