Blue Demons Take Home Four All-BIG EAST Honors

Leon Huck, Matteo Iaquinto earn unanimous selections
CHICAGO – Leon Huck, Matteo Iaquinto, and Pablo Torres Almeida earned First Team All-BIG EAST honors, the conference announced on Thursday. Matt Brothers and assistants Leo Hua and Brian Livingston were honored as BIG EAST Co-Coaching Staff of the Year.
Long-time Blue Demons Huck and Iaquinto earned unanimous First Team selections, each claiming their second BIG EAST title. Torres Almeida secured his first conference title, boasting a 13-2 singles record in dual play.
Playing mostly at the No. 1 spot for DePaul, graduate student Leon Huck capped off his final season of collegiate tennis with a 10-9 singles record and a 14-5 clip in doubles.
Huck also secured four Weekly BIG EAST Awards, which included three Doubles Team of the Week nods and one Singles Player of the Week honor. This recognition marks his second-straight season as a unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST selection.
Junior Matteo Iaquinto added his first All-BIG EAST recognition, holding down the No. 3 position for the Blue Demons, going 13-7 in singles and 8-8 in doubles.
Iaquinto secured one BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week during the dual season with an undefeated performance at the HEB Tournament of Champions, Feb. 17-18, over UT-Arlington and Louisiana.
Based on his impressive play in the BIG EAST Championships, Iaquinto was honored as the Most Outstanding Performer, in addition to earning DePaul's title-clinching match-point.
Sophomore striker Pablo Torres Almeida fell in just two solo matches all season, gathering a 13-2 singles record and a 2-3 record in doubles. Torres Almeida's dual season was highlighted by his outstanding win streak, which currently sits at ten games.
In addition to being 9-1 at the No. 5 spot for the Blue Demons, Torres Almeida held the longest win streak of any Blue Demon this season and is also tied with Iaquinto at thirteen for most dual singles match wins.
Leading the "Band of Brothers," Matt Brothers, Leo Hua, and Brian Livingston orchestrated DePaul's journey to its third title in four seasons. With nearly forty years of collective coaching experience, their expertise forged a path of excellence on and off the court.
As the "Architect" of a dynasty, Brothers' influence on the DePaul Men's Tennis program is magnified by his shared recognition as the 2024 BIG EAST Co-Coaching Staff of the Year alongside Hua and Livingston.
