Blue Demons set to face six NCAA tournament teams from a season ago
CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball head coach Doug Bruno unveiled the Blue Demons' 2024-25 non-conference schedule on Tuesday afternoon.
The 13-game schedule features six games against 2024 NCAA Tournament teams, a trio of matchups against local rivals and a total of seven regular season contests at Wintrust Arena.
"Our non-conference scheduling philosophy has always been to challenge our team by playing either ranked opponents or local rivals. This year is no exception," said Bruno.
"The month of November will provide plenty of early tests for our team with perennially ranked opponents in Texas as well as Duke, Kansas State and/or Oklahoma in Las Vegas in addition to games against Princeton, Green Bay and Michigan State in December."
Prior to opening the regular season, the Blue Demons will host a pair of exhibition games beginning on Fri., Oct. 18 when Lewis visits Lincoln Park for a matchup at McGrath-Phillips Arena. To close out preseason play, DePaul will welcome Winona State to Wintrust Arena on Oct. 28.
The regular season tips off on Wed., Nov. 6 against Mercyhurst before Princeton lands in Chicago for a tilt on Nov. 9. A season ago, the Tigers went 25-5 and captured the Ivy League crown for the fifth-straight season.
DePaul will hit the road for the first time on Nov. 12 with a short trip to Rogers Park to take on Loyola Chicago for the 57th meeting between the two programs.
"Local rivals make for popular games among the fans because of the great alumni bases in Chicago for all four schools," Bruno added. "When you play the local schools, you have to throw out the records."
The Blue Demons host Texas on Nov. 17 after the Longhorns made an Elite Eight appearance in 2024 and finished the season ranked No. 7 in the final Associated Press poll.
Bruno and Co. will travel to Green Bay, Wis. for the first time since 2019 on Nov. 21 for the return trip of a home-and-home series. The Phoenix clinched the Horizon League title in 2024 and posted an overall record of 27-7.
The week of Thanksgiving will send DePaul to Las Vegas for the Ball Dawgs Classic Nov. 25 and 27 for a pair of games at Lee's Family Forum. The remainder of the field includes Duke, Kansas State and Oklahoma -- all who appeared in the 'Big Dance' a season ago with matchups to be determined.
The month of December will begin with the return of a familiar face as SIUE led by Sam Quigley-Smith (DePaul '11) will square off against the Blue Demons on Dec. 1.
A three-game stretch in the span of eight days continues with a pair of matchups on the road against Big Ten opponents in Northwestern (Dec. 4) and Michigan State (Dec. 8).
The non-conference slate wraps up with a trio of contests at home including the first bout in a home-and-home series with UNLV on Dec. 13 before UIC on Dec. 15 and Southern on Dec. 17 or 18.
The 2024-25 BIG EAST Conference schedule as well as tipoff times and television designations will be announced at a later date.
