Head Coach Matt Brothers welcomes three new signees to DePaul
CHICAGO – DePaul men's tennis head coach Matt Brothers officially announced the addition of three new student-athletes to the 2024-25 Blue Demons roster. Andy Hadziabdic, Tobias Leitner, and Quang Vinh Nguyen round out the new look "Band of Brothers."
Three-time BIG EAST Conference Champion head coach, "The Architect" Matt Brothers, aims to build on his recent success by guiding this talented trio of highly regarded student-athletes.
"I'm very excited to welcome all three of our new student-athletes," said coach Brothers. "They are not only talented players but also dedicated students who will fit well within our Blue Demon family."
Andy Hadziabdic, a freshman and hometown hero, joins the Blue Demons from Acellus Academy, with hopes of making an immediate impact. The 5'11" signee brings ITF Juniors experience, having competed in Singles at the J30 Eau Claire tournament in Feb. 2023.
"Andy is our first local recruit since Chris Casati graduated four years ago," said coach Brothers. "It's great to keep some of our Chicago talent here at home. He's a very talented player and a dedicated student, and I'm excited to see how quickly he makes the jump from juniors to college tennis."
Freshman Tobias Leitner hails from Freistadt, Austria, and enters collegiate tennis with a career-high Junior rating of 582 in the world. Leitner secured his first ITF Juniors Championship in Doubles at J5 Nairobi (Kenya) and reached the finals on two other occasions—once in Austria (2024) and once in Kenya (2021).
"Tobi brings a wealth of experience from the pro level and ITF Futures, where he recently made the finals and earned his first ATP points in doubles," said coach Brothers. "He's a big guy with a big game, and we look forward to further developing his hardcourt skills."
Sophomore-transfer Quang Vinh Nguyen moves to Lincoln Park after spending his freshman season with the NAIA Dillard Bleu Devils (New Orleans, La.). At Dillard, Vinh Nguyen advanced to the Second Round of the 2024 NAIA Men's Tennis Championship. He also joins DePaul men's tennis as a five-time ITF Junior Doubles Champion, with three finals victories in Vietnam, and one each in Thailand and Singapore.
"Vinh comes to us with a year of outstanding college tennis under his belt," coach Brothers. "He's an extremely talented player who is already benefiting from our Sports Performance program and developmental plan."
The three DePaul newcomers made their debut in scarlet and blue last weekend, each securing first place in their respective draws at the 2024 River Forest Collegiate Invitational. Leitner represented DePaul in the No. 2 draw, followed by Hadziabdic at No. 5, and Vinh Nguyen at No. 6.
