Women’s Tennis Opens Fall Tournament Play at Rocket Invitational

Four newcomers to make Blue Demon debut
CHICAGO – DePaul hits the road for its first action of the 2024-25 season to compete at the Rocket Invitational Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28 in Toledo, Ohio.
Along with facing host Toledo, the Blue Demons will square off against Michigan State and Youngstown State throughout the weekend.
The invitational is formatted with one round of doubles and two rounds of singles with each player competing in two matches on day one, Friday, Sept. 27. The scarlet and blue matchup with Toledo in the doubles pairing with first serve set for 9:00 a.m. CT. Singles action is set to follow with half of the team battling Youngstown State at 10:00 a.m. CT with the remainder facing the Penguins at 11:30 a.m. CT.
Singles play resumes with the Blue Demons taking on the Rockets with matches scheduled for 1:00 p.m CT and 2:30 p.m. CT.
DePaul double dips in its doubles draws on Saturday, Sept. 28. Opening play at 9:00 a.m. CT, the Blue Demons take the court against Michigan State. Following the match, the scarlet and blue face Youngstown State at 10:00 a.m. CT.
In their lone singles match of the afternoon, DePaul battles with Michigan State. First serve is slated for 11:00 a.m. CT. with half the team partaking in the action, while the remainder of the squad is set to begin against the Spartans at 12:00 p.m. CT.
DePaul returns four players from Head Coach Marisa Arce's most successful campaign in Chicago from a year ago. Junior Hannah Smith is coming off an All-BIG East 1st Team nod, while senior Eleanor Nobbs received a All-BIG EAST 2nd Team selection in 2024. Senior Eva Goncharov adds experience and mentorship to a young roster. The Canadian notched a 7-3 singles record throughout the dual season while competing in the sixth spot. Sophomore Sasha Stula is back after appearing four times in the No. 1 singles slot during dual play and totaling a 6-3 record while on tour.
The Blue Demons four newcomers will make their first career appearance. Sophomore Roberta Sechi transferred after a season at Sam Houston State, closing out the 2024 dual regular season with doubles victories in two of the final three matches. Sophomore, Helin Alvarez makes the short trip to Lincoln Park after finishing with an 18-3 dual singles record and an instrumental piece to Chicago State's Horizon League championship team in 2024.
Freshman Isabella Gibson and Eleanor Cochran make their collegiate debuts on Friday. Gibson, a native from York, England won J5 Dublin during her junior career. Cochran joins the Blue Demons as the first Scottish-born recruit in program history winning both the Scottish Cup and Scottish Indoor Doubles Championship in juniors.
