Arce set to begin sixth season as head coach
CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis hits the road to match up with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday, January 18 at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT.
The Scarlet and Blue faced Notre Dame last season. While the Fighting Irish emerged with a 4-0 victory from the Feb. 16, 2024 match, the Blue Demons are setting their sights on the 2025 rendition.
Head coach Marisa Arce emphasized the excitement surrounding the beginning of dual play, "We've been preparing since the summer for the dual season. We're starting with a top Notre Dame team and these challenges are pivotal for our growth and will help prepare us for BIG EAST matches."
DePaul returns four players from a team that brought home 17 victories a season ago, the most in Arce's tenure. Seniors Eva Goncharov and Eleanor Nobbs, junior Hannah Smith, and sophomore Sasha Stula look to take on leadership roles to guide the newcomers.
Arce talked about the group's youth, "We have such a young team, and I can't wait to see them compete both on and off the court."
Freshman Isabella Gibson showed competitiveness during her first collegiate fall tournament slate. The York, England native finished with a promising 6-4 singles record including a 3-0 showing at the Spartan Invite in November.
Stula also contributed strong performances during her second fall campaign in Chicago. Stula amassed a 7-4 singles clip to lead the Blue Demons in win percentage during the tournament schedule.
Notre Dame totaled an 18-10 record in the 2024 dual season reaching the 18-win mark for the first time since 2017. The Fighting Irish held a 10-3 mark at the Eck Tennis Pavilion including a 4-2 victory over #21 Duke. The hosts return junior Bojana Pozder who posted a 19-5 singles record during dual play a season ago. Head Coach Alison Silverio is in her seventh season at the helm for the Fighting Irish leading the team to an NCAA tournament victory over Xavier in 2024.
