
Blue Demons Begin Home Slate Ahead of Northwestern Trip

XS Tennis to host seven matches this season
CHICAGO – DePaul returns to Chicago for its home opener versus UIC on Saturday, January 25. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. CT at XS Tennis Village. Following the contest with the Flames, the Scarlet and Blue travel 10 miles north to Evanston, Illinois in a battle with Northwestern. The match-up with the Wildcats is slated for 11 a.m. CT at Combe Tennis Center.
Women's tennis last played UIC during the 2023 dual campaign, falling 3-4 to close the regular season. DePaul has historical success against the Flames, posting a 5-1 record since 2000. As for Northwestern, the contest is the first time the two teams have met on the court since 2007. DePaul aims to pick up its first win in program history against the Wildcats on Sunday.
Saturday's match marks the seventh season of DePaul women's tennis at XS Tennis Village. The Scarlet and Blue look to bring the energy in front of the home faithful.
Head coach Marisa Arce said, "There's nothing like competing at home, and the atmosphere at XS Tennis is one of a kind. I can't wait to get back out there on our home courts."
DePaul (0-1) begins play at XS Tennis Village following a 0-4 defeat at Notre Dame on Saturday, January 18. Senior Eleanor Nobbs won the first singles set on court two, but the Scarlet and Blue could not gain another set on the afternoon.
UIC enters action following a home contest against Marquette on Friday. UIC compiled a 10-13 record during the 2024 season. The Flames return senior Camille Belberka who led the team with a 13-9 clip in singles competition a year ago. Belberka was also part of the top doubles pair, posting a 16-3 record in the spring. Head coach Elizabeth Lumpkin Robinson is in her second season at the helm, leading UIC to its first MVC semifinal appearance in 2024.
Northwestern (1-0) faces Illinois on the road Saturday before its match with the Blue Demons. The Wildcats bested the Butler Bulldogs 7-0 last week to claim their home opener. The fall tournament schedule saw DePaul face Northwestern players on multiple occasions, but the two programs will square off in dual play for the first time in 19 seasons. Graduate Student Britany Lau is back for the Wildcats after playing to an 18-1 doubles record in 2024. Head coach Claire Pollard has steered the ship for the Wildcats since 1999, leading the team to an NCAA tournament appearance each season.
