Blue Demons’ Effort Falls Short against Northwestern

DePaul picks up one doubles match in loss
EVANSTON, Ill. – The Scarlet and Blue were downed 4-0 by the Northwestern Wildcats on Sunday in Evanston, Illinois.
The two programs faced one another in the dual season for the first time since 2007. Doubles action began at 11:00 a.m. CT from the Combe Tennis Center. The duo of freshman Eleanor Cochran and sophomore Sasha Stula gained an early advantage, winning 6-1 in dominating fashion. The young Blue Demons are having early season success with a 2-0 finish on the weekend.
During the fall tournament slate, junior Hannah Smith beat the Wildcats' Sydney Pratt in doubles competition, 7-5. This time around, Pratt/Jessel (NU) bested Smith/Goncharov 6-3 at No. 1 doubles to clinch the opening point for Northwestern.
In singles play, Cochran, freshman Isabella Gibson and senior Eleanor Nobbs fought in each of their opening sets, before falling 3-6. In slot four, Goncharov dropped the first set 1-6 to Autumn Rabjohns (NU) but rebounded to hold a 3-4 mark midway through set two before the match went unfinished. Smith and Gibson also did not finish their matches.
