Blue Demons Bring Talents to South Beach for FIU Invitational

DePaul opens 2025 with final tournament before dual season
CHICAGO – DePaul women's tennis heads to the Sunshine State for the FIU Invitational, Friday, Jan. 10 through Sunday, Jan. 12 at PayCargo Tennis Center hosted by Florida International University.
Friday marks the first time the Blue Demons have taken the court in over two months as a team. The last time out, freshman Isabella Gibson dominated singles play at the Spartan Invite posting a 3-0 record on the weekend. The York, England native looks to continue her winning ways entering the new year.
Along with DePaul, the invitational features Florida Atlantic University (FAU), FIU, Houston, and Missouri. The Blue Demons squared off against FAU and FIU during the 2024 dual season.
Doubles matches begin at 8:00 a.m. CT with singles play to follow on day one of the tournament. The Scarlet and Blue are set to deploy three doubles pairings including junior Hannah Smith and senior Eva Goncharov. The duo did not play together in the fall, but combined for 12 doubles victories with various partners during that stretch.
Sophomore Sasha Stula and Freshman Eleanor Cochran square off versus Simeva/Baidaulet (FIU). The tandem of Roberta Sechi and Eleanor Nobbs battle Artimedi/Lazar (Missouri) to round out doubles competition.
Smith kicks off singles action for DePaul, facing the Panthers' Oyinlomo Quadre who tallied an 11-3 singles record in the 2024 dual season. Stula plays against DePaul's lone Houston matchup in Heta Nuutinen. Nobbs and Goncharov each draw Missouri opponents while Gibson, Sechi, and Cochran wrap up singles play on day one.
