Men’s tennis adds three wins to weekend total

CHICAGO – DePaul men's tennis opened Day Two of the ITA Midwest Regionals with five doubles pairings in action at XS Tennis Village, highlighted by an early win from Pablo Torres Almeida and Tobias Leitner. The duo battled to an 8-7(3) victory over Youngstown State's Alex Maulouet and Rafael Le Fur before falling in the following round to Ohio State's Nikita Filin and Brandon Carpico, 8-5.

To open the singles main draw, DePaul added two more victories as Alejandro Gandini and Torres Almeida each advanced to the Round of 32. Gandini outlasted Youngstown State's Dominik Vonbank in a three-set battle, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, while Torres Almeida earned a straight-set win over Cleveland State's Devin Boyer, 7-6(5), 6-3.

The Blue Demons also saw strong efforts from Sebastian Medica, Tobias Leitner, and Andy Hadziabdic in the main draw, each taking their matches to deciding sets or tiebreaks in impressive fashion.

DePaul returns to the courts on Saturday with Gandini and Torres Almeida set for Round of 32 singles action, while Medica, Leitner, and Hadziabdic will compete in the consolation draw.
