Gonzales scores in consecutive matches as Bluejays rally in second half
CHICAGO – DePaul women's soccer struck first but couldn't hold the lead Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 to Creighton at Wish Field. Despite an early advantage and a strong second-half push, the Blue Demons were unable to fend off a pair of Bluejay goals after halftime.
How It Happened
DePaul (4-10-1, 1-5-1 BIG EAST) opened the scoring in the 31st minute when Sienna Gonzales netted her second goal in as many matches. Capitalizing on a beautiful feed from Grace Menser, Gonzales redirected her cross into the box to put DePaul up 1-0 at the half.
Creighton (5-7-3, 2-3-2 BIG EAST) made the most of its seven second-half shots, finding the back of the net twice to take control. Ariana Mondiri equalized in the 48th minute on a setup from Jalen Chaney, before Chaney converted from the penalty spot in the 71st to give the visitors the lead for good.
DePaul continued to push forward late, generating six corners and nine shots in the second half, but couldn't find the equalizer. Goalkeeper Maddie Iro finished with six saves in the full 90 minutes.
