LAST TIME OUT
DePaul moved to 2-0 this season with a 72-64 victory last Friday against Stonehill. The Blue Demons led a majority of the game on the way to the win. CJ Gunn had a career-high night with 28 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Gunn's point total was the most by a Blue Demon since Umoja Gibson on Dec. 29, 2022.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
NJ Benson opened last week with a pair of standout performances, earning him BIG EAST Honor Roll accolades Monday. Benson became the first Blue Demon to have back-to-back double-doubles to open the season since Mac Koshwal in 2009. He tallied six blocks in Friday's contest against Stonehill while recording a 77.8 field goal percentage in the pair of contests.
Behind Benson and the rest of DePaul's front court, the Blue Demons rank top-20 nationally in blocks per game through the opening week of the season. DePaul also leads the BIG EAST in assist-to-turnover ratio and steals per game.
SCOUTING BUFFALO
Buffalo (2-0) also picked up a pair of wins last week to start the season against Southern Miss and Green Bay. In their Friday 83-76 win over Green Bay, Derrick Talton Jr. and Daniel Freitag contributed 21 and 20 points, respectively. The Bulls took advantage of 41 free throw attempts and committed just seven turnovers, both among the nation's leaders.
The Bulls are led by head coach George Halcovage III, who enters his third season with the program. They return the team's leading scorer and rebounder from last season in Ryan Sabol and Noah Batchelor. Freitag was MAC Preseason Newcomer of the Year by Blue Ribbon Media, after playing his freshman season at Wisconsin.
THE SERIES
Tuesday marks just the second meeting between the two-programs all-time. Buffalo owns the 1-0 advantage in the series after defeating DePaul, 74-69, on Dec. 8, 2019.
UP NEXT
