Golf Opens Spring with BIG EAST Match Play

Eight conference teams head south to Florida
West Palm Beach, Fla. – DePaul golf opens its spring season with BIG EAST match play Monday, Feb. 3-4 at the Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Hosted by Connecticut, eight teams from the conference will compete in a bracket-style format. The two-day event will begin Monday at 8 a.m. on the 7,000-yard Jack Nicklaus designed course, which has a par of 72. Results from the event can be followed here.
36 holes will be played, with winners advancing to the winners' bracket. The tournament concludes on Tuesday with 18 holes of competition. Teams in attendance include Xavier, Marquette, Villanova, St. John's, Butler, Creighton, and host Connecticut. DePaul's lineup of seven golfers includes Dominic Lucchesi, the first Blue Demon to earn BIG EAST Golfer of the Week since 2019, Pablo Riveiro, Rohan Gopaldas, Billy Gneiser, Ryder Henares, Hank Schaefer, and Alex Vekich.
The Blue Demons head into the tournament coming off of a team title at the HCU Husky Intercollegiate, their first since 2021. The victory featured four top-25 finishers, led by Rohan Gopaldas and Pablo Riveiro who both tied for second with a score of 213.
Following BIG EAST match play, the Blue Demons will head to Las Vegas, Nevada for the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate, hosted by Louisiana on Feb. 24-26.
