
Jorie Allen Named BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Graduate student earns league's top athletic and academic honor
CHICAGO — DePaul women's basketball graduate forward Jorie Allen was named the 2024-25 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Scholar Athlete of the Year on Wednesday. The selection was made by the league's academic awards selection committee. Allen will receive a $2,000 scholarship, which may be applied to graduate or professional studies.
Allen is the ninth Blue Demon to earn the award in DePaul's 20 seasons as a member of the BIG EAST Conference. She joins Jenna Rubino (2006-07), Allie Quigley (2007-08), Anna Martin (2012-13), Brittany Hrynko (2014-15), Megan Podkowa (2015-16), Brooke Schulte (2016-17), Chante Stonewall (2019-20) and Lexi Held (2020-21) as recipients of the leagues top academic and athletic honor.
The Bedford, Ind. native is currently pursuing a master of arts degree in writing and publishing in DePaul's college of liberal arts & social sciences. The four-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team member owns a perfect 4.0 grade point average (GPA) in her graduate studies and was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in the fall. She earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science with a concentration in Law and Theory in March of 2023, graduating summa cum laude with a 3.90 GPA.
Returning for her final year of collegiate eligibility in 2024-25, Allen saved the best for last. In BIG EAST action, Allen led the conference in scoring with 20.06 points per game while finishing fourth in assists (3.89), free-throw percentage (.847) and minutes played (35.5). She recorded 10 or more points in all 31 of DePaul's regular season games, a streak that leads the BIG EAST and ranks top-10 in the country. Allen totaled 16 performances of 20 or more points which also led the league. She was masterful from the charity stripe in the regular season, setting DePaul's single-season record for free throws made (207) and attempts (245) while also tying the single-game mark (17) versus Georgetown on Feb. 9. Her free throw mark ranks third in Division I this season. Allen was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on seven occasions this season.
Allen has been staunch in bettering the community around her. She currently serves on the BIG EAST Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and has represented her team on the DePaul Athletics SAAC board. She has participated in numerous volunteer events, such as reading to school children in the Chicagoland area, constructing blankets for Marillac St. Vincent as well as leading instructional clinics with Girls in the Game and YMCA of Metro Chicago.
Allen and the Blue Demons will begin their postseason on Friday, March 7 in the first round of the 2025 BIG EAST Tournament. Sixth-seeded DePaul will meet No. 11 Xavier at 3 p.m. CT inside Mohegan Sun Arena.
