
Blue Demons Host Marquette and Butler at XS Tennis Village

DePaul faces pair of BIG EAST opponents in weekend clash
CHICAGO – The Scarlet and Blue continue their home stretch, welcoming Marquette and Butler to the Windy City this weekend. First serve against the Golden Eagles is set for 12:30 p.m. CT on Friday, March 7. The Blue Demons face Butler the following day in the third annual Natalie Matko Jackson Memorial Match. Coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. CT from XS Tennis Village.
As the season reaches its midpoint, the Blue Demons take on three BIG EAST opponents in their next four matches.
"All year we prepare for conference play. It's very exciting to compete in two BIG EAST matchups this weekend, and we're ready for the challenge," said head coach Marisa Arce.
DePaul defeated the Golden Eagles on the road when the two programs squared off last season. Eleanor Nobbs dominated on court two in a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the match. The Scarlet and Blue hold a 21-4 all-time record and an 18-2 mark in the last 20 meetings against Marquette.
The Blue Demons sit at 25-6 in program history versus Butler, riding an eight-match win streak against the Bulldogs heading into Saturday's contest. Like the Golden Eagles, Butler is winless on the road against DePaul.
DePaul (7-5, 2-0 BIG EAST) begins the weekend following a thrilling 4-3 triumph over Cornell on Sunday, March 2. In doubles action, No. 67 Eva Goncharov and Hannah Smith secured court one, collecting the doubles point. Sasha Stula and Eleanor Cochran added a win on court three, leading the team with a 9-3 record this season. Stula dominated in singles, posting a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the second slot. The sophomore earned the BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week award for her performance, marking the second consecutive week a Blue Demon won the accolade, joining Smith. Goncharov also controlled court four, besting Cornell's Emma Baker, 6-1, 6-1. The Big Red evened the scoring at three after clinching courts one, five and six, setting up a tiebreaker between Eleanor Nobbs and Sage Loudon in slot three. Nobbs dropped the opening set, 6-4, but rebounded 6-3, 6-3 to take the contest, giving DePaul its seventh victory of the season.
Marquette (3-10, 0-1 BIG EAST) lost to Northern Illinois at home its last time out. The Golden Eagles dropped a 4-2 decision to Georgetown in their lone BIG EAST match. Jayson Wiseman is in his second year as head coach. Prior to Marquette, Wiseman led Eastern Michigan to a 16-10 record in the 2017-18 season. Tiera Jarmond is a bright spot for the Blue and Gold, tallying a 9-2 record during dual play while splitting time between courts one and two.
